Young researchers at work!

Volcanoes

As part of our IB unit on Natural Disasters we made these model volcanoes that actually erupted!

Co-operation

We made this colourful yarn web by co-operating with each other. It was a lot of fun!

Read some of our excellent writing.

Year Six have been developing their creative writing skills. Here are some extracts from their very exciting writing.

"I swallowed as much courage as I could and crossed it. When I got to the end of the bridge I saw a little house. The door was very colourful. I took a deep breath and went in. I saw a strange handle and I pulled it. Then a mysterious gate magically opened!" JR

"I felt like I was in a volcano! I saw a little hut. The hut had stained glass windows and I could hear music playing and water splashing. The house had a tower, it was where the man was reading Releeshan. Then I took all the fear I had inside me and I went inside. I looked up and saw a light - it looked like a spider was in it!" JE

"My courage was curling up in me. I did not know what to do. Then I pulled the lever with a clunk and a rusty squeak. I screamed as loud as I could and the gate opened. I heard someone talk then all of a sudden I heard something else. It sounded like a ship! I stepped forward. I was in a garden and I saw something that looked like a bug or maybe an eye!" CM

"So I decided to follow the path leading down. Suddenly cliffs were surrounding me so I went up with two paths in front of me. I was afraid to go across the bridge because I did not know what would be lurking in the murky water. So I sucked up all my fear and went and opened the door." WR

"There was a big thing in front of me. When suddenly I pulled the lever it made a squeak. Then a gate opened and I was so scared I was shaking. I stepped through the gate. I saw a golden button. It was black too. Then I looked to my left, it was a gate, it opened with a loud bang to reveal stairs going down." RF

"Suddenly I found myself in this strange land. I looked around and I saw jagged rocks. I turned my back and that..im-im-imposter..he ran! I followed him and as I ran I heard the wind blowing in my ears. I could smell the salt from the sea water. I went across a bridge and into a mysterious hut. The door was locked!" MB

"The telescopes had different coloured stones on them. One had red, one had blue and another had purple. I smelled the salt water and it was horrible. The island looked like Hell to me!" JMcL

"I heard wind rushing by, it was a mysterious, magical place. I chased the man, but he put a lock on the doors so I couldn't get in! He was wandering around the house it was very strange. The sea was calm, the clouds were not moving, there was no one by me. I felt so lonely. I heard music around me and I wanted to go back. I saw a railing carrying me to a mysterious strange lake. When I came back down the ladder I saw yellow sand with green grass. The cliffs were sharp and I saw amazing rocks. The place was magnificent!" SW

Gumbo

Today we had a visit from local artist Joseph Betty (Gumbo) and his family. It was fantastic. He and his wife are both artists and they showed us their work and told us what influences them when they paint. They told us to paint what we feel and to keep working hard.
Gumbo is a Cubist and loves the work of Pablo Picasso. They were very impressed by our paintings too!
You can see their work on display at Cafe Del Sol in Caymana Bay, and pretty soon you might see some of our work there too!
Thank you so much to the Betty family for sharing your art with us and for inspiring us to keep painting.

We're the new Year Six!

Hello! We are the new Year Sixes and our new teacher is Mrs Sim. As you can see we have been very busy since we came back to school this year. We have visited the National Gallery in George Town and we have turned our classroom into an art gallery too!
We have been cooking and swimming, reading and writing, exploring and experimenting. Keep checking back to our page to see what we get up to. It's a lot of work and a lot of fun in Year 6.

We are sailing!

Year 6 had a marvellous opportunity yesterday - they were sponsored by local company KPMG to spend a day with the coaches at the Cayman Islands Sailing Club learning how to sail. This was a new experience for them - and they had a great time! We are hoping that we can make this a regular feature of our school activities. Many thanks to Jenna, from the sailing club, for the photos.

Thank-you!

Year 6 would like to thank everyone who helped with Friday Night's Fish Fry - we made over $1800 towards our trip to St Petersburg, Florida, where we will be going to a Herpetology Camp. Special thanks to our fish friers - Mr Nicolas Rivers and Ms Wendy Quinland. Thank you also to all who bought tickets, gave us donations and pulled in on the night. Thanks, Ms Campbell for making it all come together - and to Ms WIlliams and Ms Caroline for all their input. Thanks to all the parents and staff who did their bit for the event. To date we have raised over $5500 in total - but we need another $7500 to hit our target...so watch this space for information about our next fundraising venture!

If you would like to support us, please contact Ms Campbell or Ms Williams at the school on 947 9516 or 925 5436 - we would love to talk to you about our trip and give you more details if you would like them.
